Email design in 2016

Designing a successful email campaign today is very different from even just a few years ago. Email design is moving forward!

Today, our email campaigns need to be optimized for mobile, multichannel, data-driven, and visually up-to-par with today’s design trends. We need to do all of this with our subscribers moving from one device to another. Yet despite these challenges, email marketing continues to be one of the most effective marketing channels as we saw recently during the Black Friday holiday in November 2015 in the US that email generated 25.1% of total sales.

Brands are getting better at email design

During the holiday season we’ve seen a number of brands update their email design. These brands have updated their design techniques as well as design tactics for 2016.

This is why we decided to cover the most recent design techniques – responsive mobile design and modular design – in Chapter 1, followed by a practical, hands-on Chapter 2 that goes into the design elements of an email message: from the header designCTA buttonstypography, and much more. Finishing with Chapter 3, we provide five real life, inspiring examples of what great email design looks like. In the end, inspiration is all a designer wants!

Digital marketing technology is on the rise

Beyond design trends, digital marketing technology is on the rise. We’re seeing new email design tools – such as our MailUp BEE email editor – emerge.

Because of so many new marketing tools to choose from, the challenge today is actually being able to keep up-to-date with the recent marketing technology, as highlighted from last year’s Salesforce State of Marketing Report.

Take for example our intuitive, drag-n-drop BEE editor: anyone can nowadays design a professional and mobile-optimized email campaign without any HTML or CSS knowledge. This wasn’t possible just a few years ago!

Throughout this whitepaper, especially in Chapter 2, we’ll be showing you how we apply the email tactics in the BEE editor.
